On 4th July, 2015, 13 Scouts and 5 leaders from Belfast County will go to Ethiopia for two weeks to take part in a Habitat For Humanity building project. (Wifi permitting) we hope to post a daily blog update of what we've been doing while we're there.

Team BBQ
BBQ Meeting "Get together" Ardnavalley Monday 4th May 2015, 6:00pm
Katie and Ashley organised a BBQ as a way of getting the members of the teams energy back to normal after both our leaders and scout marathon teams participated in the Belfast City Marathon Relay as part of their fundraising for Habitat for Humanity. It was a good day to run the relay, the sun was shining and the 4th was strong with this one! This also happened to be the mark of the two months left before our teams trip to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. A good excuse as any to treat ourselves to some of Ashley's well done burgers!
Peter was desperate for a kick about and conspired to running back to his house to fetch a football unfortunately to no avail this time, but I'm sure it will make a shock appearance in his bag for our trip! Stuart went back for seconds rather enthusiastically prompting the comment of the night from Katie pointing out aptly that he loves baps. Rachel had a good laugh and we found she could not cope with the way Declan says "breakfast".
Tonight we were tasked as a team to come up with our own hopes and fears about our build trip in July. This was all done privately and sealed in an envelope carefully and should be a really interesting thing to look back on when we see them again in September's evaluation.
We were also informed of the itinerary for our trip, and a little more about where we will stay. Due to the high altitude David told us to keep in good physical condition and to bring protection for mosquitoes as well as sorting out our vaccinations quickly.
The great thing about this group is that while I cannot know what everyone hopes for or is scared of, I believe after our orientation and meetings through the year we are now all on the same wavelength about how important completing this trip is for ourselves as individuals, for Habitat and for the beneficiaries and what a unique opportunity it is to help otherwise unreachable people.
This trip has been a long time in planning, since May 2014 since most of us were accepted, but it is a really exciting thought that the countdown is now in days.
